Wastewater energy pairs well with Geothermal loops!
Cost Savings
The SHARC Series can significantly reduce the costs associated with geothermal loop projects. By reducing the number of boreholes needed, the size of the geothermal loop field can be reduced, resulting in less project and construction expenses. This can make it more likely for the project to receive budgetary approval.
Improved Performance
Incorporating wastewater energy into the geothermal loop system can help it run more optimally. The thermal buffer provided by the wastewater energy can stabilize the peak temperature of the loop, allowing it to run more efficiently. This also helps to reduce the load on the thermal loop, making it possible to transfer otherwise wasted heat energy to other heating loads.
Increases Sustainability
Geothermal energy is a proven, sustainable source of clean energy. By pairing it with the SHARC Series, it is possible to enhance the performance of the geothermal loop while also reducing the project’s overall environmental impact.
Seamless integration
The SHARC Series works seamlessly with ground source, connecting directly to the geothermal loop through a heat exchanger, making it easy to install and operate.

Two high-rise multi-family apartment buildings in the Bronx will pioneer the first-ever geothermal/wastewater heat recovery system, utilizing thermal energy transfer from geothermal energy and energy captured through wastewater flowing through pipes to provide 100% of the heating, hot water and cooling load for Amalgamated Housing Cooperative’s 316 affordable housing units in two 20-story multi-family towers. The project’s goal is to reduce Tower I and Tower II’s energy usage from a site energy use index (EUI) of 111.5 to 40, representing a decrease of 2,741 carbon tons to zero. The technology is provided by Egg Geo and SHARC Energy Systems.
